Presentation: Thomas.B and his Saab 9000 CSE

    Saab Journey

The Saab experience began with a 1998 9-3 OG (B204E), purchased from a friend. With 370,000 km, the vehicle remains in excellent condition. This was followed by a 1998 9-5 (B235E) in blue with a beige leather interior, imported from Belgium. The 9000 CSE was acquired in late 2020, and a 1987 900 T8 currently awaits restoration.

Current Vehicle: 1995 Saab 9000 CSE

    • Engine: B234L - 2.3L Turbo 200hp

    • Equipment: Cruise control, leather interior (electric, heated, memory), automatic climate control with sunlight sensor, oil pressure and temperature gauges, rear parcel shelf sunshade, and spoiler.

    Restoration and Maintenance

Acquired in France, this Belgian-spec vehicle required extensive work. Initial repairs included replacing a headlight relay and CV joint boots. Further inspection revealed cracked bearing cages in the CV joints, leading to the replacement of both CV heads and front wheel bearings. Bodywork issues, specifically rust behind the passenger-side fender trim, were addressed with a replacement panel.

Following persistent engine misfires, a comprehensive mechanical overhaul was performed: cylinder head gasket, clutch, connecting rod and crankshaft bearings, timing chain, engine mount, clutch hose, slave cylinder, and brake lines. The misfires were finally resolved by replacing the alternator voltage regulator, a component often overlooked in troubleshooting.

Recent maintenance included replacing shock absorbers, heater hoses, and lower suspension arms. A low oil pressure issue at idle when warm was partially mitigated by replacing the balance shaft bearings.

Remaining tasks for the restoration include the rear axle, radio antenna, steering rack, and a full respray.
